New kids on the block!

Introducing: the Scrooges!

This is the Black Scrooge

And this is the Gray Scrooge

They look more alive most of the time, but the only good time to take their picture is when they take a break and lay down for a rest... :) otherwise, they keep trying to play with the string attached to the camera :D

here's what they're doing now:

We brought them home on Thursday night. They immediately started exploring their new teritory, checking suspecious corners, figuring out the best route to the top of the refregirator, and trying to get into our dinner plates.
Gray scrooge has a favorite spot on the couch; Black's favorite rest area is the corner under the omputer table. They have the smelliest poo you have ever seen. but we figure that if they feel comfortable farting around us, they consider us family!!!

Here are some action shots of Black:

oh, looks like Gray is waking up..!

mmmmmmmmmm prrrrrrr... good morning... what's up?

hmm... maybe i can help you here with this computer thing, what do you say? .. hmmm... boring... i'll go see what my dad is doing...

err... he's just sleeping on the floor... i think i'll go eat now.

p.s. - don't forget to check out the third coast from time to time!

All you want to know (and more) about Malakas

WOW.. I did not know about the Philippines myth about their names..

So, for those of you who want to know about him, before you see "the real deal", here is some information about Malakas.

Born: September, 1988
Hair color: White
Eye color: One blue and One green.

Current weight: 4.3 Kg.

Max weight: 9.46 Kg (21 Pounds).

Favorite occupation:

Eat and Sleep

Favorite time of the day: When eating and sleeping - all day long

Last dentist visit: 22.04.94 (but he keeps his teeth clean. He had some health issues after the dentist visit, so we decided that it's not good for him).

He is not reading (since the notebook is upside-down). That's his dental records

Bad times: After loosing his wife and sister, he got to some rough times. He was down all day long. He didn't eat as much, and lost almost 7 KG, and was only 2 KG.

He is the land-owner of our plot. The cats & dogs know it's his territory (even thou he is very old), and if a new cat comes to the neighborhood, the others explain to him that this is a "Off limit" zone.

Now I'm almost 24, so you can do the math, and figure that Malakas has a great part in my life, since he is around from when I'm 5 years old (80% of my life).

Malakas and Maganda

it's weird, having spent more than half my life with Maganda and Malakas, you would have thought that i would try harder to find out what their names mean... of course, for much of their lifetime, internet was only a rumor...
anyway, i stumbled upon this (by "stumble" i mean: i entered "maganda" in google): Maganda and Malakas indeed mean "beautiful" and "strong" in Philipines, which we knew, but they are also the first man and first woman in their mythology.
here's a short version:
The Philippine myth of how the world was first populated by humans.
It is said that after the world was created, a bird with a sharp beak and highly ornate feathers sought a place to rest and eat after flying for several days. Looking down at the vast ocean below him, he spots a small formation that seemed to be a cluster of pearls (the Philippine islands). Not desiring to fly any further, he lands and finds himself perched on a giant bamboo shoot. Curious as to what was inside, he proceeded to peck at the top end of the large plant. After several attempts, the shoot finally splits in the middle and with amazement he finds himself looking at the first man (malakas) and woman (maganda) tucked inside the hollows of the bamboo halves.

Winter in Canada

Sandy & I went to the cabin last weekend. The weather had warmed up, the sun was out, and the snow had begun to melt. Dave & I went up to the Bear Camp & went fishing with Tim, who fell through the ice. (He popped right back out & was only slightly wet, even though he went up to his neck.)
Sandy & I rode the sled back to Peak and Emerald Lakes on Sunday, and on Monday, took this picture on the bottom, from the edge of the lake in front of the cabin, to the right. If you can zoom in, you can see a wolf, to the left of the end of the dock, and straight below the base of a tree. Sorry for the poor quality. We watched the wolf for 15 minutes as it crossed the lake below the mountain. I saw it again later, much closer to the cabin, but couldn't get to the camera before it was gone.

a glorious weekend in chicago
