Celebrity in the Family

It's done! We got Gary to Omaha and to the awards breakfast for the AABP (American Association of Bovine Practitioners) and he got the award. I feel quite confident in saying that he was stunned. I almost felt sorry for him when he knew he had to stand up and walk to the front of a room of over 1000 people and say "thank you." He was more than a little wobbly, but he managed to be very gracious, in spite of the hyperventilating stuff. ;)

For the Sharonim: the AABP is the organization for all veterinarians in the U.S. and Canada who work on cattle. The award Gary received from them is for the outstanding practicing veterinarian out of the whole organization. Yes, it's a big deal, especially for Gary. Being recognized by his peers for his 30 odd years of work, both on the farm, and for other groups (MSU School of Veterinary Medicine, the AAPB itself, state regulatory organizations, and so forth) was, he said, a very humbling experience. He didn't think he'd done enough to earn this award, but fortunately, his colleagues disagreed.

Anyhow, as I told him, I was very proud to be hanging around with him this week. And he got a really nice diamond ring in the deal, which he will probably be wearing 24-7 once his swollen finger returns to normal. Be sure to ask to see it next time you see him. He seems to enjoy looking at it himself, so I think he'd love to show it off to all of you.

Congratulations Dad - you're the man. We already knew you were, but it's about time the rest of the world caught up.

Maybe it's time to retire, and go out on top like Michael Jordan.

Be sure you don't lose that ring in one of your patients.

It's funny that you get a ring, where the history shows that it is something you might lose during a check-up call.

We didn't think you were a dimonds person, but we know you have a dimond personality.
keep up the good work.

WOW.. Our best veterinary.. I am so proud to be a member of your family.

Gary - Kol Hakavod (congratulations)

We have a saying in Hebrew, which might be translated like this: "Behind every successful man there is a supporting woman", so don't forget to share with Sandy the diamond ring whenever she feels like it.

Go Gary!

I am very proud of you.

After seeing you in action, I now you deserve that award and ring. Heck, you deserve a whole bunch of rings, and a long bath at the spa.

ps- if you get tired of the ring, you can donate it to the nearest pirate, or the nearest pirate museum.

So many people have said so many nice things to me over the past several days. Thank you all!

The ring will never see the inside of one of my patients....Sandy may wear it whenever and wherever she likes....pirates will have a fight on their hands if they even try to take it......and Michael Jordan was making a lot more $ than me when he was at the top of his game.

So......thankyou all, but don't be too impressed. Remember that I tried and was unable, to walk on water at the Sea of Galilee!
