Survivor Woman!

I don't know if any of you have ever watched a TV program called "Survivorman." It is a very interesting show, where a guy named Les Stroud is dropped off in the wilderness, anywhere from the Kalihari desert to the rain forests of Costa Rica to the Alaskan winter, and has to survive for a week, with no food and very little in the form of survival tools, with the exception of the small video cameras he uses to film himself. We watch it regularly and really enjoy it.

So.........this spring Canadian Youth TV contracted with Les to do a "Survivor Kids" program. It will consist of him taking 6 young people, ages 12 to 16 years, into the bush (wilderness) in Ontario for 3 weeks. They will be tested on their survival skills, tolerance of blackflies and mosquitoes, etc., and then judged by Les. The show will run for 13 episodes.
They received thousands and thousands of applicants for the 6 positions, and from those they selected 20 to receive videotaped interviews in their home. I think you may know one of the winners! Drum role please......................................................Yes ladies and gentlemen, she is our own lovely and talented JENNIFER DAUB!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yahoo! Way to go Jen!

Jen practing her fire starting skills.

The production crew will be coming to her home this Monday to spend 1-2 days filming her in action in her environment, i.e. driving the boat, canoeing, riding the ATV, fishing, and just being Jen.
Dave called Friday night, as soon as he found out. He was on his boat, out in the middle of a 30-mile long lake, in the only spot he could get a cell phone signal, and was so excited he could hardly talk. We are all proud of her, but he was proud in a way that only a father could be! I told him that Jen will probably be sharing some of his secrets with Les, and at the end of the show, Les will be calling Dave to see if he can go to fish camp with him!

Jen with her Grandfather, Jerry Daub, and trusty fishing guide, after a day on the lake. I think this was the day she learned to clean fish.

Jamming with Jen! She's going to be a big star!

The proud parents, after an hour on the lake. (Yes Ron, they are lake trout, and they tasted almost as good as they do in the winter!)
If you would like to send her a congratulatory message, her address is daub_girl@hotmail.com
I'm sure she would love to hear from you.

Awesome! We watch that once in awhile too. One of the survival skills she can show him is how to safely smoke a cigarette next to a balloon filled with acetylene/oxygen gas.

Ben, you forgot the part about balancing a handle of Black Velvet in your free hand while lighting that baloon and smoking.

I think the program is supposed to be broadcast on Canadian tv this summer or fall. We'll pass along any further info we get.
